Weight-lifting and Weightlifting are not the same?!
When it comes to the way to train it comes down to your goals and the availability of certain facilities. If you are not willing to pay for a gym membership, maybe you can try callisthenics? If your end goal is to look muscular, perhaps bodybuilding is a good choice?
There’ll always be a training style that will suit your needs. If there aren’t any of your liking, you can even try combining a few and make up your own.

Bodybuilding
Arnold Schwarzenegger! Pumping iron! The most common form of weight-lifting nowadays. Bodybuilding focuses on the looks instead of numbers, and this seems to be the charm of bodybuilding because bodybuilding athletes train to look good.
Bodybuilding athletes train to look good.
Personally, this is my favourite training style.
(P/s: Bodybuilder refers to a person who competes in the bodybuilding category. A person who competes in the physique category may adopt a bodybuilding training style but are hardly refers to as bodybuilders)
For more information on bodybuilding competitions check out Mr.Olympia it’s like the Oscars in bodybuilding.
Powerlifting (strength training)
Strength training does not only involve the 3 main lifts, but other forms of exercise will also be included. However, in powerlifting competitions, it’ll be about the amount of weight a person can lift in the 3 major lifts (Bench, Squat and Deadlift). Basically, the NUMBERS matters.
Powerbuilding
As the name suggests, powerbuilding is the combination of bodybuilding and powerlifting. This training style is a hybrid of strength and hypertrophy training. If you can’t decide between strength and aesthetic, maybe you can give powerbuilding a shot?
Callisthenics
If you’ve seen videos of people doing cool tricks such as static holds or flips on the pull up bar; that’s probably callisthenics. It is a form of training that does not include added weight and depends on mostly body weight.
Olympic weightlifting
Weightlifting is a sport that’s including in the Olympics. It is judged by the maximum amount of weight a participant can lift. (Not to be confused with weight lifting, weight lifting refers to the act of lifting weights and weighlifting is a form of sport.
There are still a lot of training styles beyond these such as cross fit, strongman, etc. Do explore and find the a suitable one.
